The arts and culture festival that brings Australia’s diverse talent, to the fore.

The SSI New Beginnings Festival promotes the talents, vitality and diversity that people from refugee and migrant backgrounds bring to Australia's creative sector.

Unleash your creativity while making a social impact

Eager to get creative and meet new people? Learn new skills and bring your creative projects to fruition with well-established artists and filmmakers from a refugee background. Participate in creative workshops at the Welcome Creative Hub leading up to Refugee Week 2019 celebrations.

Choose from filmmaking or puppetry workshops that will run for 6-weeks on Mondays from May, 6 - June 10, 2019, in Lilyfield.

Tickets are $30 ($5 per session).

Iranian artist and engineer Majid Rabet will pair technology with art during workshops, using innovation to help you bring some edge to your art projects.

Gain the gung-ho to shoot films through a smartphone, and small DSLR camera with Iraqi-born experienced filmmaker Ali Al Azeez. You’ll discover how to develop a concept and bring your creative vision to reality through film.

Your creative works produced during the filmmaking and puppetry workshops will be showcased at the SSI New Beginnings Winter Festival as part of Open Inner West.

*The Welcome Creative Hub is a project run by the Community Refugee Welcome Centre (CRWC) in close collaboration with Settlement Services International (SSI) and is supported by funding from the Inner West Council.
