The SSI New Beginnings Festival is an initiative of Settlement Services International (SSI) and its Arts & Culture Program.
The SSI New Beginnings Festival brings together people from all ages and backgrounds to experience and celebrate the vibrant talents and cultural expressions of migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum.
Refugees are people who, through no fault of their own, have been forced to leave their homelands in search of safety. Through a series of annual events, the SSI New Beginnings Festival gives exiled artists and craftspeople an opportunity to showcase the diverse cultural and artistic contributions they make to their new homes through expressions such as dance, music, art and food.
The festival draws upon the rich cultural heritage and artistry found in new and emerging communities to encourage intercultural understanding and engagement. Ultimately, this celebration of hope, unity and new beginnings seeks to counter negative opinions about refugees and people seeking asylum, and to encourage people to celebrate the unique contributions they make to Australia.
The SSI New Beginnings Festival is a family friendly, all ages celebration. Everyone is welcome!
SSI is a community-based, not-for-profit humanitarian organisation providing a range of services in the areas of refugee and migrant settlement, accommodation, asylum seeker assistance, multicultural foster care, disability support, employment services, and youth support in NSW.
